Long Whatton Play Area – Update

The land on which the play area sits is owned by Leicestershire County Council, for which the Parish Council pays rent, and on investigation it came to light that the current lease is up for renewal in August 2017. The cost of the refurbishment is in the region of £35k so to justify spending this money it is essential that this lease be renewed and extended to make it viable. This has been a very lengthy and time-consuming process with the solicitors and LCC legal department. However, it was a necessary process in order to get adequate protection for the investment to make the new asset financially viable. This has made the project take much longer than anticipated, BUT we are very nearly there!!!

The Parish Council has instructed the equipment supplier to confirm the plans and the Parish Council hope to have the new equipment installed around November. After attending Long Whatton school it was lovely to see how excited the children were and the ideas they had were really helpful to making the plans final. – Please watch this space!
